Chapter 10: The Tape**

The tape hissed with static, followed by the familiar, calm baritone of Arthur Hayes. The background carried the faint rumble of a diesel train engine.
*“Camille, my little bird.*
*If you are listening to this, you made it to the bank. You faced the men in suits, you carried the weight of our family’s burden, and you did not drop it. I have never been prouder of anyone in my life.*
*I know you are angry that I wasn’t on the platform. But you must understand: my presence was a beacon that would have drawn them right to you. As long as they chased my ghost, they couldn't see the real giant walking in plain sight—my daughter.*
*The world will tell you that what we did was about justice. But justice without mercy is just another form of anger. Use what is left to build, not to punish. Protect those who cannot speak for themselves.*
*Look inside the compass, Camille. The true north has always pointed home.*
*I love you beyond the edge of the sky.”*
The tape ended with a soft click.
Camille held the cassette player against her chest and let the tears flow freely for the first time since the journey began. She wept for the lost years, the quiet cabin, the missed train, and the father who had traded his safety for hers.
