Chapter 15 - Dawn of a New Era

The priority alert on the tablet flashed in bold red letters across the screen, reading: Transmission intercepted. Vanguard main server self-destruct sequence active. All files wiping in sixty seconds.

Arthur cursed loudly, his fingers flying across the touchscreen in a desperate attempt to reroute the upload to a secondary secure node before the data vanished forever. "They're burning the whole network from orbit! If this data wipes, the board walks free!"

Julian didn't panic. He reached into his ruined suit jacket, pulled out the titanium pen, unscrewed the back cap to reveal a physical micro-solid-state memory chip—the exact component he had secretly extracted from the master console while holding off Arthur in the subterranean lab. He popped the chip into the side port of Arthur's tablet just as the countdown timer hit three seconds.

The screen flickered, turned solid green, and displayed a single, permanent message: Upload complete. Federal warrants issued.

The tension drained from the car in an instant. Arthur leaned back against the leather seat, letting out a long, shaky breath of pure disbelief. Julian looked down at Leo, who stirred peacefully in his sleep, and gently kissed the top of the newborn's head as the morning sun finally broke over the ocean horizon, bathing the safehouse in warm, golden light.

As federal sirens began to wail faintly in the distance, signaling the arrival of the authorities to dismantle Vanguard once and for all, Julian opened the car door, stepped out into the fresh sea air, and felt the heavy corporate armor fall away forever.
