The estate fell into a quiet hush after the police cruiser departed. The grand dining room, once a stage for Claire’s rigid social standards, suddenly felt spacious and light.

Julian sat at the long wooden table, the yellowed envelope resting between his hands. His fingers trembled as he touched his late wife Clara's handwriting on the front: To Julian, when the time is right.

Lily walked over slowly and stood beside his chair. ""Mommy told Elena where to hide it before she went to the hospital, Dad. She knew Claire was trying to take over long before you saw it.""

Julian looked down at his daughter, tears finally brimming in his dark eyes. ""Why didn't you tell me sooner, sweetie?""

The realization hit Julian like a physical blow. In his effort to avoid conflict and move past his grief, he had allowed a stranger to isolate his daughter in her own home.
