One evening, as rain tapped softly against the high windowpanes, Julian, Lily, and Elena sat by the fireplace in the living room. The warm glow illuminated the restored portrait of Clara above the hearth.
""Elena,"" Lily said, looking up from her book. ""Do you think Mommy can see us right now?""
Elena smiled gently, setting down her knitting needles. ""I think your mother lives right here in this room, Lily. Every time you speak the truth, every time your father protects you, and every time this house feels like home, her spirit is right here with us.""
