Elena took a deep, steadying breath. For months, she had quietly endured Claire’s subtle cruelty, keeping her head down to protect her job and keep an eye on young Lily. But the silence ended today.
""It is behind the false backing in the pantry cabinet, Mr. Vance,"" Elena said clearly, her voice unwavering. ""She hid it last night after you went to sleep. She intended to sell it to an private dealer in London by the end of the week.""
""You traitorous little snake!"" Claire spat, taking a step toward Elena.
Julian immediately stepped into her path, his broad chest blocking her entirely. ""Don't touch her. Don't step another inch closer to anyone in this house.""
Julian walked over to the dining room sideboard, pulled out his phone, and dialed a number he never thought he’d have to call. ""Detective Vance? It’s Julian. I need an officer at my residence immediately. We have a grand larceny in progress, and an attempted assault.""
