Chapter 11: A Lesson in Forgiveness
A few weeks later, a letter arrived at the estate from Claire’s legal defense team asking for a character mitigation statement from Julian to lessen her sentence.
Julian sat in his study with Lily, discussing what it meant. ""She did terrible things to us, Lily. But holding onto hatred only hurts the person holding it.""
""Are you going to help her?"" Lily asked curiously.
""I won't lie for her to lower her sentence,"" Julian explained gently. ""She must take responsibility for breaking the law. But I won't ask the judge for extra punishment out of anger either. We leave judgment to the court, and we keep peace in our hearts.""

Lily thought for a moment, then nodded. ""Mommy used to say that forgiving someone doesn't mean you let them back in your house. It just means you don't carry them around in your head.""
Julian smiled deeply, astonished by his daughter's wisdom. ""Your mother was a very wise woman. And so are you.""
