Chapter 15: The Unbroken Horizon

The sun sank below the horizon, bathing the Chesapeake Bay in an eternal canopy of rose, gold, and deep indigo light.

The evening breeze blew sweet and cool through the pine needles, carrying the scent of salt spray, woodsmoke, and blooming beach plums.

Down at the pier, the lanterns flickered on, casting a warm golden glow across the sturdy timber pilings that Caleb had driven into the bedrock so many years ago.

Allison walked down the wooden dock, joining Caleb and Evelyn as they watched the first evening stars appear in the clear sky.

She looked at her mother’s peaceful face, then reached out and took Caleb’s strong, scarred hand in hers.
