Chapter 6

Rain beat heavily against the tinted windows of a quiet, dimly lit café situated three blocks away from Hamilton Enterprises. Elain pulled the hood of her oversized trench coat lower over her forehead, keeping her head down as she waited in the corner booth. The bell above the door chimed, and Marcus Vance stepped inside, shaking the water from his umbrella before scanning the room. He spotted the small signal—a silver pen resting beside a ceramic cup—and walked over with cautious steps. When Elain lowered her hood and looked up, Marcus froze, his professional composure shattering into genuine shock. "Good God, Elain... rumor had it you left the city entirely. Are you alright?" Marcus whispered, sliding into the booth opposite her. Elain didn’t waste time on pleasantries; she slid a small black USB drive across the scarred wooden table. "I’m surviving, Marcus. But Julian is walking blindly into a slaughterhouse, and if he falls, the company his father built goes down with him." Skeptical yet deeply unsettled by her appearance, Marcus plugged the drive into his encrypted tablet. As he scrolled through the offshore wire transfers, the forged medical diagnostics, and the systematic dilution of Julian’s voting shares, the color drained completely from his face. "This... this is corporate treason. Tatum’s brother is routing millions out of the primary development fund, and the paperwork bears Julian’s digital signature," Marcus muttered, his hands trembling slightly against the screen. "A signature that was authorized through a master override while Julian was distracted," Elain replied evenly, her green eyes fixed on the attorney with unwavering resolve. "Tatum is positioning herself to execute a hostile takeover at the upcoming quarterly shareholders' meeting. Julian will be left penniless, publicly disgraced, and legally culpable for embezzlement." Marcus looked up, searching her face for any trace of malice or bluff, finding only cold, maternal determination. He knew the risks of crossing Tatum and an increasingly paranoid Julian, but the integrity of the firm outweighed personal safety. "What do you need me to do?" Marcus asked quietly. A faint, grim smile touched Elain’s lips as she outlined the first phase of a counter-offensive designed to dismantle the illusion of power brick by brick.
