Chapter 9 - The Final Balance

The final notification sound was sharp, high-pitched, and entirely unforgiving. Ramon’s hand trembled as he pulled the phone from his pocket. The screen didn't show a bank alert this time; it displayed an automated email notification from the national immigration bureau, bearing an urgent subject line: TRAVEL BAN IMPOSED: ACTIVE FLIGHT CANCELLATION NOTICE.

"No," Ramon breathed, staring at the screen in absolute disbelief. "No, my flight is at six in the morning! They can't cancel it without a court order!"

"They didn't just cancel your flight, Mr. Del Rosario," the lead police officer said, stepping closer and motioning for his partner to bring out the handcuffs. "They revoked your passport pending the completion of the forensic audit requested by Ms. Del Rosario's legal counsel."

Ramon staggered backward, his heels catching the edge of the curb. He would have fallen if the second officer hadn't firmly grabbed his arm, twisting it behind his back with practiced efficiency. The cold click of the steel handcuffs echoed sharply against the quiet night air, sealing his fate with mechanical finality.

Lisa watched the cuffs lock around Ramon’s wrists, her expression numb. She made no move to help him, nor did she shed another tear. The illusion had completely shattered, leaving behind only the cold reality of her own poor choices and misplaced trust.

Trina stood a few paces away, leaning against the open door of the black sedan. She watched the officers secure Ramon, her expression entirely devoid of triumph. There was no joy in this moment—only the heavy, exhausting closure of a chapter that should have ended years ago.

"Wait," Ramon protested, his voice straining as the officers guided him toward the cruiser's rear door. He twisted his head desperately toward Trina. "Trina! Please! We can talk about this! Don't do this to us—after everything we built!"

Trina finally spoke, her voice clear, calm, and carrying an absolute finality that cut deeper than any insult. "We didn't build anything, Ramon. You built a house of cards, and you invited everyone inside just to watch it collapse."

The officer pushed Ramon into the back seat of the police cruiser, slamming the heavy door shut with a resounding thud. The interior light flickered briefly before the vehicle shifted into gear, its taillights bleeding red against the dark pavement as it pulled away from the curb.

Attorney Santos turned back to Trina, holding out a digital signature pad. "Ms. Rosales, the police are currently entering the penthouse to detain the intruder. You’ll need to authorize the property damage waiver for the broken glass."

Trina took the stylus from the lawyer's hand. Without hesitation, she signed her name cleanly across the glowing screen, her hand steady and unwavering.

"Let's go home, Attorney Santos," Trina said softly, slipping into the comfortable leather interior of the sedan.

As the car pulled away from the curb, leaving Lisa standing alone in the cold night air, Trina looked out the window at the receding city skyline, unaware that a final, unexpected message was already waiting in her inbox.
