Chapter 2 - The Sound of Sinking Funds

The vibration of Ramon’s smartphone echoed loudly in the sudden stillness of the dining room. Nobody moved. The green screen glowed against the dark fabric of his polo shirt, displaying the bank notification like a digital confession. Trina did not blink. Her sharp eyes remained fixed on Ramon, watching the exact moment the color drained completely from his face.

"Care to explain that notification, Ramon?" Trina asked, her voice dangerously calm. "Or should I read the transaction details out loud for the entire restaurant to hear?"

Ramon’s fingers twitched toward his pocket, but he froze under the sheer weight of her gaze. He cleared his throat, avoiding eye contact. "It’s a mistake," he stammered, his voice lacking any conviction. "The joint account... there was a business opportunity. An emergency investment."

"An emergency investment to Tokyo?" Lisa choked out, her voice cracking as she stared at Ramon in sheer disbelief. "You told me the trip was just a vacation for the two of us! You said you had already divorced her on paper!"

The confession hung in the air, thick and suffocating. Trina’s gaze snapped from Ramon to Lisa, a dark realization dawning upon her. So Lisa had not merely stolen her ticket; she had been fed a web of elaborate lies, believing she was the primary partner in a clandestine affair.

"You lied to her too," Trina said, a grim, humorless smile touching the corner of her lips. "Look at you, Ramon. A coward to the very end, manipulating two women at once."

Lisa’s hands began to shake uncontrollably. She looked down at the airplane tickets resting on her lap, then up at Trina’s cream satin blouse, realizing the full scope of her own humiliation. "I didn't know," Lisa whispered, tears finally spilling over her lashes. "Trina, I swear to God, I didn't know she wasn't signing the papers."

"Save your tears, Lisa," Trina snapped, her patience evaporating entirely. "You packed my suitcase. You took my place. You are just as complicit in this betrayal."

Ramon finally found his footing, standing up abruptly from the wooden chair. "Trina, let's go outside. We are handling this in private." He reached out to grab her arm, his fingers brushing the fine fabric of her sleeve.

Trina violently jerked her arm away, stepping back as if burned. "Don't you ever touch me again." She raised her smartphone, its screen still glowing with the flight details, and hit record. "Go ahead, Ramon. Tell me about your emergency business trip again."

Before Ramon could lunge forward to knock the phone from her hand, the restaurant manager rushed over, his face pale with anxiety. "Sir, Madam, I must ask you to take this outside—"

Trina turned to the manager, holding up her device. "Call security, please. This man just stole funds from my corporate account."
