Chapter 6 - The Intruder in the Master Bedroom

Trina froze with her hand on the sleek black door handle of the sedan. The ambient sounds of the city seemed to fade into a dull hum as her eyes locked onto the glowing screen of her smartphone. The photograph showed her own master bedroom: the king-sized bed with its neat gray duvet, the mahogany dresser, and—most disturbingly—a second black travel suitcase identical to her own, resting open on the floor.
Beside that second suitcase stood an unfamiliar figure, captured in the blurry reflection of the full-length mirror.
"Ms. Rosales?" Attorney Santos asked, pausing with his hand on the opposite door. He noticed the sudden rigidity in her posture. "Is something wrong?"
Trina didn't answer immediately. Her mind raced, connecting terrifying dots. If Ramon and Lisa were dining at the upscale restaurant, and her own suitcase was sitting on the pavement beside them... whose suitcase was currently unpacked in her master bedroom? And who had the security code to her penthouse apartment?
She tapped the screen, opening the live CCTV feed linked to her apartment’s smart security system. The video stream buffered for a agonizing second before resolving into a clear, high-definition view of her hallway.
A woman with short, dyed-blonde hair and a heavy leather jacket was casually walking out of Trina’s walk-in closet, holding a velvet jewelry box in her hands.
"Ramon," Trina said softly, her voice dropping into a register so cold it made Attorney Santos look back with immediate concern.
She turned around slowly. Ramon and Lisa were still arguing furiously near the curb, their voices raised in bitter recriminations. Trina strode back toward them, her heels clicking sharply against the pavement. She bypassed Ramon entirely and stopped right in front of Lisa, shoving the phone screen directly into the other woman's face.
"Do you know this woman?" Trina demanded, her eyes locked onto Lisa's terrified expression.
Lisa stopped mid-sentence, her mouth slightly open. She blinked at the screen, her eyes widening in genuine shock. "Clara? That's... that's Clara."
Ramon stopped shouting too. He peered over Lisa’s shoulder, and all the remaining color drained from his face for the second time that evening. "Clara? What is she doing at the penthouse? I told her to stay away until tomorrow!"
Trina’s breath caught in her throat. She stared between the two of them, the horrifying scale of the web unfolding before her. "So there wasn't just one mistress," Trina said, her voice shaking with restrained rage. "How many apartments are you running, Ramon? How many women are funding your pathetic double—no, triple—life?"
"Trina, wait, it’s not what you think!" Ramon stammered, backing away as Trina advanced on him. "Clara is just... she’s an associate. She was supposed to help pack the rest of the storage unit!"
"She is currently holding my mother’s heirloom pearl necklace," Trina said, pointing at the live video feed where the blonde woman was unlatching the velvet box.
Without another word, Trina pulled out her phone, tapped a single emergency icon on her security app, and remotely activated the apartment's lockdown protocol.

On the screen, the smart locks clicked audibly, and all the exit doors sealed shut from the inside. In the live video, Clara dropped the jewelry box in panic as the interior lights flickered and turned a sharp, warning crimson.
