Chapter 14 - The Vault of Secrets

The priority alert flashed in crimson across Trina’s smartphone screen: WARNING: UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS ATTEMPT ON PRIVATE RESERVE VAULT.

Trina stared at the screen in absolute disbelief. The private reserve vault was located in the sub-level basement of the residential tower—a secure, biometric-locked compartment containing physical bearer bonds, historical family deeds, and emergency liquidity funds that only she could access with her unique retinal scan and master cryptographic key.

Or so she had always believed.

"Agent," Trina spoke rapidly into her phone, connecting back to the lead investigator who was still escorting Leo down the private elevator. "Did Leo have access codes to the sub-level reserve vault?"

Over the staticky intercom, the agent’s voice came back immediately, laced with sharp urgency. "Negative, Ms. Rosales. Only primary stakeholders can initiate a vault transfer. But our preliminary scan of Leo's briefcase showed a physical hardware token—a biometric bypass device."

Trina’s blood ran cold. A biometric bypass device meant someone down in the vault was currently attempting to physical breach her family’s final financial sanctuary. And according to the investigator’s previous report, the scheduled transfer was tied directly to Lisa Cruz’s overseas account.

Lisa wasn't just a naive, manipulated mistress who had been duped by Ramon. She was the active operational proxy executing the final stage of the theft while Ramon and Leo acted as the public distractions.

Without a moment's hesitation, Trina turned and sprinted down the hallway toward her private elevator. She swiped her master security card, bypassed the standard floor selection, and punched the emergency sub-level override code.

The heavy metal doors slammed shut, and the elevator plunged downward at maximum speed, the gravitational pull pressing hard against her chest. Her cream satin blouse was slightly rumpled, her neat bun beginning to fray, but her determination was harder and sharper than ever.

The digital floor indicator ticked downward rapidly: P3... P4... Sub-Level Vault.

The elevator bell chimed a sharp, metallic note as the doors slid open into the reinforced concrete corridor of the sub-level basement. The lighting here was harsh, flickering fluorescent tubes casting long, distorted shadows across the reinforced steel walls.
