The gunshot echoed across the concrete. A sharp, burning shock tore through Julian’s left shoulder, knocking him into the puddle below. Blood blossomed across the dark velvet of his tuxedo.
"Julian!" Scott cried out, slamming Kane into the side of the SUV, knocking the weapon from his hand.
Sirens wailed in the distance. Blue and red flashing lights broke through the coastal mist as federal cruisers swarmed the perimeter, cutting off Kane's escape route.
