Chapter 13 - The Resurrection Protocol

The mysterious figure stepped further into the boardroom, the shadows parting to reveal a man with silver-streaked dark hair and eyes that burned with a chilling, familiar intensity. He wore an immaculate black trench coat, entirely unfazed by the shattered glass and the dead guard lying just feet away.
"Surprise, little brother," the man said, his voice deep and dripping with sardonic amusement.
Julian stumbled back against the concrete pillar, his composure completely shattered. "Julian said you were dead! We attended your funeral! We buried an empty casket!"
The man chuckled, stepping past the conference table and ignoring the trembling security guards. "Of course you did. Victoria needed a tragedy to consolidate the board's votes five years ago, and I needed to disappear to dismantle the empire from the outside. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement—until Victoria decided to double-cross me, too."
Victoria stepped out from behind the concrete pillar, her posture stiffening as she glared at the newcomer with cold, unyielding fury.
"Arthur," Victoria hissed, using the name she hadn't spoken aloud in half a decade. "You should have stayed in the grave."
Arthur Vance—the true eldest grandson, long thought dead in a European alpine accident—smiled coldly, resting his suppressed pistol casually against his thigh. "And you should have retired years ago, Grandmother. Your grip on the Vance shipping empire is slipping. And tonight, it finally breaks."
Elena remained hidden beneath the conference table, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. She clutched the hidden flash drive tightly in her pocket, realizing the game had just escalated far beyond a simple family feud. This was an all-out civil war for control of a multi-billion-dollar global syndicate.
"You think a sniper and a dramatic entrance give you control of the board?" Julian snarled, regaining a fraction of his arrogance as he stepped away from the pillar. "The asset transfer document is signed. The voting shares belong to us!"
Arthur glanced down at the table where the signed parchment lay beside the fallen security guard. He let out a low whistle. "Oh, you got her to sign? Impressive. But there’s just one tiny flaw in your master plan."
Arthur reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a remote detonator, pressing a single red button.
Instantly, the massive projection screen at the front of the room flickered off, replaced by a live satellite feed of the Vance Global offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands.
The numbers on the screen began to plummet toward zero at breathtaking speed.
"What did you do?!" Julian shrieked, lunging toward the console.
"I emptied your piggy bank," Arthur said smoothly. "Every shell corporation, every hidden Swiss account, every penny Marcus stole—it’s all being routed into a global humanitarian trust. Vance Global is officially bankrupt as of thirty seconds ago."
Victoria’s face turned the color of ash. For the first time since Elena had met her, the unbreakable matriarch looked genuinely terrifying—not out of power, but out of absolute, unmitigated rage.
"You destroyed us," Victoria whispered, her voice trembling.
"I liberated us," Arthur corrected. He turned his gaze toward the conference table, his eyes locking directly onto the space beneath it where Elena was hiding.

"Come out, Elena," Arthur called out softly. "The show is over. And I have a car waiting downstairs just for you."
