Chapter 11

Claire found Julian standing alone by the tall windows at the end of the ICU corridor, staring out into the dark, rain-swept parking lot. The harsh fluorescent light cast long, sharp shadows across his face, accentuating the exhausted lines around his eyes and the rigid tension in his jaw. She approached him quietly, her footsteps making no sound on the polished linoleum floor, until she stood just a few inches away from his shoulder.

"Julian," she said softly, keeping her voice carefully modulated so it wouldn't carry down the quiet hallway toward the room where Elena sat with Lily.

Julian didn't turn his head immediately. He took a slow, deliberate breath before finally looking down at her, his expression unreadable. "What is it, Claire? You look like you've seen a ghost."

"I just received a phone call," Claire replied evenly, holding his gaze without flinching. "An unknown number. The voice was electronically disguised, but the message was crystal clear."

Julian’s eyes narrowed instantly, the calm facade cracking to reveal a cold, lethal intensity underneath. "What did they say?"

"They said the conservatory was just the beginning," Claire whispered, leaning in slightly closer. "They called it a warning meant for you—a reminder that your corporate enemies are holding all the cards. They said the next message won't be aimed at a wall."

A heavy, suffocating silence descended upon them as Julian absorbed the words. The anger that flared in his eyes was terrifying in its intensity, a silent promise of violent retribution that rivaled the ruthlessness of his unseen adversary. He gripped the wooden windowsill so hard his fingers dug into the painted surface.

"Did they name a name?" Julian asked through clenched teeth, his voice a low, dangerous growl.

"No," Claire shook her head. "Just a warning that your game is reaching its final round. Julian, whoever is doing this knows your every move. They knew about the venue, they knew about the installation, and they know we are here."

Julian turned fully to face her, running a hand through his dark hair in a rare display of frustration. "I spent ten years crushing rivals to build Sinclair Enterprises into an empire, Claire. I always knew there would be a reckoning, but I never imagined they would go after my family. I need to make a call." He reached into his pocket for his phone, his mind already racing through a list of ruthless competitors and betrayed former partners who possessed the motive and the means to orchestrate such an attack. The fragile threads holding their lives together were snapping one by one, leaving them standing on the precipice of an all-out war.
