Chapter 11: The Language of Art

Upon returning to Switzerland, Vivienne discovered that Leo had inherited his mother’s extraordinary artistic talent.

The sunlit conservatory of the lakeside estate was transformed into a painting studio. Canvases, jars of linseed oil, and vibrant pigments filled the room.

Leo spent hours painting the landscapes of Sierra del Sol—the towering granite peaks, the cascading waterfalls, and the smiling faces of the village elders. In every painting, tucked into the corner of the canvas, was a tiny, glowing green leaf representing Vivienne.

""Why do you always put the green leaf there, Leo?"" Vivienne asked one afternoon, watching him blend emerald with gold on his palette.

Leo turned around, his apron smeared with yellow ochre. ""Because Sister Teresa said green is the color of hope. When the mountain fell, the trees lost their leaves, but the roots stayed alive. You are the leaf that grew back to tell the tree it was safe.""

Vivienne felt a tear slide down her cheek, warm and sweet. She wheeled herself closer, wrapping her arms around his small waist, resting her head against his chest.

""You are my heart, Leo,"" she whispered.

""And you are my hands,"" Leo answered, hugging her tightly.
