Chapter 1 - The Microphone Drops

“Shut that microphone off right now! Get away from here!” Clara shrieked, her voice cracking with pure, unadulterated panic as she pointed a manicured finger at the trembling child.
“I won’t shut up! Everyone has to hear what you did to my mommy!” little Lily sobbed into the heavy metallic device, her white and pink frilly dress stained with dust from the venue floor.
Julian stepped forward instantly, his broad shoulders tensing inside his sharp black tuxedo as he threw a protective, glaring wall between his frantic bride and the weeping flower girl.
“Step back, everyone! This is a private family matter and the ceremony is over!” Julian barked, his eyes flashing with a dark, calculated fury that silenced the murmuring crowd of elite guests sitting in the grand ballroom.
Clara’s chest heaved beneath layers of expensive imported lace, her blonde updo shaking as she realized the massive projection screen behind the altar was still looping the forbidden surveillance footage.
“Julian, don’t listen to her, she’s just a confused child repeating lies put in her head by bitter enemies!” Clara stammered, her face draining of all color as she grabbed her husband’s stiff lapel.
The giant LED screen flickered again, displaying a younger Clara signing a fraudulent adoption waiver alongside a shadowy figure whose identity was intentionally blurred out by pixelation.
Lily wiped her tear-streaked face with the back of her small hand, clutching the microphone tighter to her chest like a shield against the looming threat of the adults.
“My mommy didn’t leave us voluntarily! Clara locked her in the basement of the old beach house until she signed the papers!” Lily screamed out the truth into the silent hall.
Julian slowly turned his head to look down at his new wife, his expression hardening into a terrifying mask of betrayal as he processed the devastating accusation.
Clara opened her mouth to defend herself, but no sound came out; she simply stared in horror as the back doors of the ballroom suddenly swung open wide.
A tall woman in a simple gray trench coat walked into the blinding light, her face partially obscured by dark sunglasses, halting the entire wedding party in their tracks.

Julian’s jaw dropped in sheer disbelief as the newcomer stepped forward, pulled off her glasses, and locked eyes directly with a petrified Clara.
