Chapter 15

Six months later, the morning sun poured through the large, arched windows of Julian’s new architectural studio in downtown Savannah. The exposed brick walls and polished pine floors radiated a warm, inviting energy. On the drafting table near the front window sat a scale model of a community center he was designing for the local district—a project dedicated to family support and youth mentorship, built in memory of Lily’s mother.
The bell above the street-level door chimed, and the familiar sound of small footsteps echoed across the wooden floor.
"Julian! Look what I drew in art class today!" Lily’s voice rang out as she sprinted into the studio, holding up a colorful crayon drawing of a little girl, a tall man, and a smiling sun.
Julian set down his drafting pencil, walked over, and crouched down to examine the masterpiece. "This is incredible, Lily. Is this going right on the main bulletin board?"
"Right in the center," she declared proudly, handing him a small piece of blue tape to secure it to the corkboard beside his desk.
Arthur walked in behind her, carrying a tray of iced teas from the corner cafe. He set the tray down on the central table and smiled at the scene unfolding before him. "The city council just approved your final permits for the community center, Julian. Groundbreaking is set for next Monday."
"That’s fantastic news," Julian said, standing up and dusting off his hands. He looked around the bright, sunlit studio, feeling a deep, unshakeable sense of completion.

The tragedy that had started in St. Jude’s Cathedral had torn his world apart, shattering every illusion he had ever cherished. But from those shattered pieces, a genuine truth had emerged—one that couldn't be broken by lies, hidden by wealth, or washed away by time. He had lost a bride built on deception, but he had found his true purpose, a surrogate family, and a life anchored in unwavering integrity.
Julian walked to the front window, watching the bustling Savannah street outside as a warm southern breeze drifted through the open door. The past was behind him, locked away where it belonged, while the horizon stretched out wide, bright, and completely honest. He took a deep, steady breath, smiled down at Lily as she hummed a cheerful tune over her crayons, and stepped forward into his new beginning.
