Chapter 4 - The Uninvited Battalion

A squad of armed federal agents in tactical gear flooded the aisle, their assault rifles lowered but ready. At their head walked Detective Sarah Lin, her badge gleaming on her tactical vest, her expression severe and unyielding. She scanned the chaotic scene, her sharp eyes taking in Julian on the floor, Arthur standing tall, and Clara standing beside him with quiet dignity.

“Nobody move!” Detective Lin’s voice commanded absolute authority, echoing off the stone walls. “Julian Vance, you are under arrest for racketeering, financial fraud, domestic terrorism, and attempted extortion.”

Julian scrambled to his feet, a desperate, hysterical laugh escaping his lips. He raised his hands, though his fingers were still twitching toward his pocket.

“You have no jurisdiction here! This is a private estate, and these warrants are unconstitutional!” Julian yelled, stepping backward toward the vestry door behind the altar.

“My jurisdiction covers federal banking crimes and interstate domestic abuse, Mr. Vance,” Detective Lin replied, stepping forward with deliberate strides. “And thanks to an anonymous data dump sent to my division precisely four minutes ago, we have every transaction, every threat recording, and every medical report dating back three years.”

Arthur lowered his head in a subtle nod of acknowledgment. The data dump hadn't come from his phone; it had come from Clara’s encrypted cloud account, which she had secretly synced the night before while Julian slept. Clara met Detective Lin’s gaze and gave a microscopic nod of validation.

Julian’s face drained of all color. He realized the trap had been closing around him long before he stepped foot in this cathedral. He lunged sideways toward the vestry door, hoping to reach the private exit that led to the subterranean parking garage.

“Stop him!” Arthur roared, abandoning his composure.

Two tactical agents intercepted Julian mid-stride, tackling him hard against the oak paneling. The crystal champagne flute he had dropped earlier shattered into a thousand glittering pieces across the stone floor. As they cuffed him, Julian thrashed wildly, his eyes locking onto Clara with pure, unadulterated venom.

“You think this is the end?” Julian screamed as they dragged him down the aisle, his voice echoing off the high rafters. “You’ll be dead before the sun sets, Clara! My associates won't stop just because I’m in a cell!”

The heavy silence that followed his departure was heavy and suffocating. Detective Lin turned to Arthur and Clara, her expression softening slightly.

“You’re both going to need immediate protective custody,” Lin said.

Clara looked out at the terrified faces of the wedding guests—the same high-society elites who had looked the other way for too long. She stepped past her father, picked up the microphone from the altar stand, and tapped it once.

“The wedding is canceled,” Clara said into the microphone, her voice steady and clear. “And so is your immunity.”
