Chapter 4: The Revelation

The hallway outside the faculty lounge was quiet, illuminated only by the pale afternoon sunlight filtering through the wired glass doors. Leo balanced carefully on his crutches, his bad leg held stiffly out in front of him as he navigated the linoleum floor. The anonymous video replay looped endlessly in his mind, revealing a conspiracy far deeper than simple teenage bullying. The person standing by the soundboard, whispering instructions to Chad right before the assault, wasn't just a random student. It was Marcus, the senior class treasurer and the school board president’s protégé.
As Leo approached the media lab, the door swung open, and Marcus stepped out, carrying a stack of financial audit reports. He froze when he saw Leo standing there blocking the narrow corridor, his eyes darting nervously toward the exit before he forced a tight, defensive smile onto his face.
"Hey, Leo. Heard about the assembly," Marcus said, his voice tight and artificial. "Rough break down there on the wood. Glad you're walking okay."
"It wasn't a break, Marcus. It was a push," Leo replied calmly, his eyes locking onto Marcus's shifting gaze. "Just like the setup with my fellowship application file last week. You swapped the folders on the admin desk, didn't you?"
Marcus let out a dry, nervous laugh, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. "What are you talking about? You won the grant. Everyone knows it. Just drop it and take your trophy."
"If I drop it, Chad takes the fall alone while you walk away clean with whatever kickback your dad's company promised you for rigging the STEM department budget," Leo shot back, his voice steady and resolute.
Marcus's smile vanished entirely, replaced by a cold, calculating glare. "You think anyone is going to believe a kid on crutches over the treasurer of the student council and the top donor's son? You're a target, Leo. People like you don't survive at Oakridge by making enemies in high places."

"We'll see what the school board thinks when I hand them this footage," Leo said, lifting his phone to show the clear, high-definition clip of Marcus handing the envelope to Chad.
Panic flashed across Marcus’s face. He lunged forward, grabbing the edge of Leo's crutch with both hands in a desperate attempt to wrench it away, causing Leo to stumble backward against the heavy oak door of the faculty lounge.
