Chapter 14: The Final Truth

The auditorium was silent once again, save for the low hum of the ventilation system cycling back to normal operation. Federal investigator Sarah Vance stood on the stage, her arms crossed as two uniformed officers hauled Marcus out through the backstage exit, his wrists bound tightly behind his back with plastic zip-ties.
Principal Miller walked up the steps, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. He looked at Leo and Maya, a mixture of profound relief and deep exhaustion etched into his features.
"The fire department confirmed it was a manual pull from the basement junction," the investigator said, looking directly at Leo. "Marcus tried a desperate stunt to trigger a data wipe on our mobile servers, but your broadcast override prevented a full-scale panic. You handled that like a veteran officer, Leo."
"I just wanted everyone to get out safely," Leo replied, leaning his weight onto his crutches as he let out a long breath. "Is this really the end of it? Are the Sterling appeals finished?"
"The federal judge dismissed their final emergency motion twenty minutes ago," the investigator answered, pulling a crisp, official document from her leather portfolio and handing it to him. "Arthur Sterling accepted a plea agreement involving full forfeiture of assets. The regional STEM endowment fund is officially secure, and your fellowship grant is permanently unencumbered."
Maya smiled brightly, throwing her arms around Leo in a quick, celebratory hug. "We actually did it, Leo. No more shortcuts, no more stolen code. Just our actual work on a national stage."

Leo looked down at the official document in his hand, tracing his fingers over the golden seal stamped at the bottom. The journey that had started with a brutal, humiliating fall down the gymnasium bleachers had finally reached its destination. He had faced down corruption, intimidation, and physical assault, standing his ground not with anger, but with the quiet, unyielding power of truth and intellect.
As they walked out of the auditorium together toward the sunlit courtyard, the weight of the past months finally evaporated from his shoulders. He knew his life would never be completely ordinary again, but as he balanced steadily on his crutches, stepping out into the bright open air alongside the people who believed in him, he knew he was ready for whatever came next.
