Chapter 8 - The Closing Net of Justice

The heavy steel security shutters of the boutique rolled upward with a loud, mechanical screech, flooding the dark interior with the flashing red and blue lights of multiple police cruisers. Through the shattered front glass, silhouettes of armed federal marshals and local law enforcement officers filled the street outside, their megaphones blaring orders for everyone inside to step out with hands visible.
Julian backed away toward the rear exit, his face twisted in a mask of sheer panic. All of his polished arrogance had completely vanished, replaced by the desperate survival instinct of a cornered animal.
"Tori, come on," Julian hissed, grabbing Victoria’s wrist with painful force. "We take the service elevator down to the underground parking garage. My driver has the armored sedan waiting. We can still make it to the private airstrip."
Victoria looked down at her pristine white pantsuit, then at the glowing wedding dress, and finally at Julian's desperate face. For the first time in her life, she saw him not as an untouchable corporate titan, but as a coward who would throw anyone under the bus to save his own skin—just like her father.
"Let go of me, Julian," Victoria said coldly, pulling her wrist out of his grip with a sharp jerk.
Julian stared at her in absolute disbelief. "Are you insane? They're going to arrest everyone associated with the Sterling name! You'll lose everything!"
"I already have," Victoria whispered, her voice trembling slightly as she looked at Martha and David.
Before Julian could grab her again, Martha stepped smoothly into his path. The elderly seamstress raised her hand, and the internal gyroscopes in her eyes whirred softly as a localized electromagnetic pulse surged from her fingertips, short-circuiting Julian’s designer watch and disabling his stun baton instantly.
Julian stumbled backward, clutching his smoking wrist with a cry of pain.
"You cannot outrun an ocean tide, Mr. Vance," Martha said calmly, her robotic gaze unwavering. "The pressure catches up to everyone eventually."
Heavy combat boots pounded against the marble floor as federal marshals rushed through the front entrance, their weapons drawn and ready.
"Federal agents! Nobody move! Hands where we can see them!" shouted the lead officer, sweeping his flashlight across the boutique until the beam locked directly onto Julian.
Julian raised his hands slowly, glaring daggers at Martha and David one last time before the cuffs snapped onto his wrists with a sharp, metallic click.

As officers hauled Julian away into the flashing lights outside, Victoria stood alone in the center of the room, waiting for her own inevitable reckoning. But instead of an officer approaching her, Martha walked over to the mannequin, lifted the abyssal silk wedding dress, and held it out toward Victoria.
