Chapter 7 - Breaking News on Wall Street

The bold red banner flashing across the television screen inside the boutique sent a shockwave through the room.

BREAKING: STERLING MARITIME FACES EMERGENCY SEIZURE AMID MASS FRAUD AND MANSLAUGHTER ALLEGATIONS FROM 1994 TRENCH DISASTER.

Julian stared at the screen, his face turning an ash-gray color. The sleek, expensive smartphone in his hand buzzed violently, vibrating continuously with missed calls from board members, panic-stricken investors, and legal advisors. He ignored the phone, letting it drop to the marble floor where it shattered into pieces.

"This is a fabricated digital attack!" Julian roared, pointing a trembling finger at David. "You hacked the feed! You're extorting us!"

David walked slowly toward the illuminated wedding dress, running a scarred, calloused hand over the dark pearls that adorned the bodice.

"Extortion implies we want your money, Julian," David said quietly. "We don't want your corporate empire. We want every single asset liquidated, every account frozen, and your family's names permanently erased from the maritime registry."

Victoria lunged forward, her fury finally overriding her terror. She grabbed the edge of the display counter, her eyes blazing with a feral, cornered desperation.

"Do you have any idea what you've done?" Victoria screamed, abandoning all pretense of elegance. "You've destroyed decades of legitimate work! Thousands of innocent employees depend on Sterling Maritime for their livelihoods! You're ruining lives out of petty, bitter revenge!"

Martha turned slowly, her glowing blue robotic eyes locking onto Victoria with chilling intensity.

"Innocent employees?" Martha repeated softly. "My daughter was an innocent employee. She had her whole life ahead of her, scheduled to be married in a dress just like this one. And your father locked her inside a steel tomb to protect his stock prices. Did he care about her livelihood?"

Victoria faltered, stepping back under the weight of the undeniable truth. The silence in the boutique was deafening, broken only by the rhythmic humming of the blue LED lights embedded in the abyssal silk dress.

Suddenly, the heavy steel security shutters at the front of the shop began to rattle violently. The muffled sound of police sirens echoed through the glass, growing louder by the second.

"They're here," David whispered, a grim smile touching his scarred lips.
