Chapter 10 - The Mirror of Accountability

The heavy velvet curtain of the fitting room parted smoothly. Victoria stepped out into the center of the boutique, and even David and Martha fell silent.
The abyssal silk wedding dress fit her form with terrifying precision, as though it had been magically tailored specifically for her soul rather than her measurements. The dark pearls and shimmering silver beads caught the ambient light, while the embedded blue LED lights pulsed in a steady, calming rhythm against the pristine white fabric of the gown.
Victoria looked at her reflection in the full-length gilded mirror. For the first time in her life, she did not see a haughty heiress hiding behind an expensive designer suit and a cold expression. She saw a woman stripped of every artificial luxury, standing naked in her truth.
"How does it feel?" Martha asked softly, stepping closer.
Victoria looked at the elderly seamstress through the mirror reflection, her chest rising and falling with natural, unforced breathing.
"It feels heavy," Victoria admitted, her voice steady and clear. "Like carrying the weight of an entire ocean."
"That is the weight of history, child," David said, leaning against the counter. "It anchors you so you never drift away into the falsehoods your family built."
Before anyone else could speak, the front chime of the boutique rang out once more. This time, it was not police officers or desperate investors. A single federal marshal in a crisp uniform walked in, holding a secure clipboard against his chest. He stopped short, staring at Victoria in the glowing bridal gown before turning his attention to Martha.
"Mrs. Sterling... excuse me, Ms. Sterling," the marshal corrected himself, addressing Victoria directly. "The federal prosecutor handling the Sterling Maritime tribunal has formally requested your presence at the preliminary hearing this afternoon."
Victoria turned around to face the officer, her posture straight and dignified, devoid of its previous arrogant haughtiness.
"I am ready," Victoria said without hesitation.
The marshal nodded, stepping aside to clear the doorway. "Your father's legal team has already filed a motion to suppress the trench logs, claiming they were obtained through illegal extortion and cyber-intrusion."
Martha stepped forward, placing a cold, metallic hand gently on Victoria's shoulder. Her glowing blue robotic eyes flared with a fierce, protective light.
"Let them file their motions," Martha said firmly. "Truth has a way of cutting through the deepest steel hulls."
As Victoria walked toward the exit, her silver heels clicking rhythmically against the marble floor, she knew her old life was officially dead and buried at sea. But as she stepped out into the afternoon sunlight, she realized her real life was just beginning.

However, as she climbed into the back of the federal transport vehicle, her phone—which had been silent for hours—suddenly lit up with a single, unidentified text message containing a single GPS coordinate and a horrifying threat.
