CHAPTER 9: Building the Bridge

The transition began in the sun-drenched gardens of the estate.

Elena visited every morning, trading her catering uniform for comfortable jeans and sweaters. Together with Julian, they took Noah to the local park, watched him feed the ducks, and sat on the grass while he colored.

At first, Noah was visibly confused. He would hold Elena’s hand tightly, then suddenly run over to Julian, burying his head in the man’s legs to ensure neither parent would vanish into thin air.

"Why do I have two names?" Noah asked one afternoon, sitting between them on a wooden bench beneath a sprawling oak tree.

Elena knelt in front of him, taking both of his small hands in hers. "When you were born, my heart named you Noah because it means peace and comfort. When you were brought here, Daddy Julian called you Leo because it means brave like a lion. You get to be both, my love. You are Noah, my little sparrow, and you are brave Leo who brought us all together."

The boy looked at Julian, his hazel eyes searching for confirmation. "Is it okay to go with Mama Elena, Daddy?"

Julian swallowed the lump rising in his throat, fighting back tears so the boy wouldn't see his pain. He smiled warmly, brushing a stray lock of hair from Noah’s forehead. "It's more than okay, buddy. It’s the right thing. Mama Elena has loved you since before you could even open your eyes. And no matter where you live, I will always be your biggest cheerleader."

Noah smiled—a genuine, unburdened smile that lit up the entire garden—and hugged them both at the same time.
