CHAPTER 13: The Locket of Two Worlds

For Noah's seventh birthday, Elena and Julian hosted a joint party at a local community center. The room was decorated with handmade paper lanterns, balloons, and drawings made by Noah’s classmates.

Guests from both worlds attended: Elena’s working-class neighbors, the diner staff who had supported her during her darkest years, and Julian’s closest, most grounded friends who had stood by his moral transformation.

When it came time to open presents, Julian handed Noah a small, velvet-lined box.

Noah opened it carefully, revealing a silver locket on a sturdy chain. Inside the left side was a miniature photo of the newborn baby with the star birthmark at Saint Jude’s. On the right was a photo of Noah, Elena, and Julian smiling together at the planetarium.

"Engraved on the back," Julian explained gently, "is the date your mother brought you into this world, and the date you brought light back into mine."

Noah threw his arms around Julian’s neck, hugging him tight. "Thank you, Daddy Julian."

Then, Noah ran over to Elena and kissed her cheek. "I’m the luckiest boy in the world, Mama. I have a mama who never gave up, and a daddy who helped me find my way."

The room erupted into warm applause, not a single dry eye remaining among the guests.
