Chapter 8: Clara’s Farewell**

Two days later, on a crisp autumn morning under an overcast sky, a private memorial service was held at a quiet cemetery in upstate New York.
There were no media cameras, no society elites, and no corporate flowers. There was only Arthur, dressed in a black overcoat, holding five-year-old Lily in his arms, alongside Mrs. Higgins and Marcus.
Arthur had purchased a serene plot beneath a massive weeping willow, overlooking a quiet lake. A polished granite headstone read:
> **CLARA HUGHES** > *A Loving Mother, A Pure Heart, Forever Forgiven.*
Lily stepped forward, holding a bouquet of wild white daisies—Clara’s favorite flowers. She placed them carefully on the freshly turned earth, her small fingers patting the cold stone.
"Mommy," Lily whispered, her voice steady and clear. "Daddy found me. He took me home. You can rest now."
Arthur knelt beside his daughter, placing one hand on the granite headstone and the other around Lily’s small shoulders. The deep, agonizing knot of guilt that had twisted in his chest for years began to loosen, replaced by a profound sense of duty.
"I won't let you down, Clara," Arthur spoke softly to the wind. "I will give her everything you gave her: love, patience, and truth. That's my promise to you."

As they walked back to the car, a sudden ray of golden sunlight broke through the grey cloud cover, warming their faces. Lily looked up at Arthur and, for the very first time, smiled a bright, innocent smile that illuminated the entire world around them.
