Chapter 9

The silence in the grand parlor was absolute. The ticking of the antique grandfather clock in the corner sounded like a ticking bomb. Clara stared at the financial printouts in her hands, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the heavy paper. The polished, aristocratic composure she had worn like armor for decades was visibly cracking, revealing the sheer panic underneath.

Harrison stood up abruptly, leaning over the table to inspect the documents himself. "Where did you get this?" he demanded, his professional veneer completely shattered. "These files are internal family assets. This is corporate espionage!"

"This is the truth," Arthur replied evenly, standing his ground. "You thought you could corner me, freeze my accounts, and steal my daughter using your money and your lawyers. You forgot that when a man has nothing left to lose, he stops playing by your rules."

Clara finally looked up from the papers, her eyes blazing with a mixture of fury and desperate realization. The cold, untouchable queen of the estate was gone; in her place stood a cornered woman recognizing that her empire of glass was about to shatter.

"You think you can threaten me with this?" Clara whispered, her voice trembling slightly with suppressed rage. "If I go down, Arthur, I will make sure you and that brat leave with absolutely nothing. I will drag your name through the mud so thoroughly no one will ever hire you again."

"You can try," Arthur said calmly. "But federal investigators don't care about social smear campaigns. They care about paper trails. And right now, Marcus has copies of everything securely stored offsite. One word from me, and the authorities execute search warrants on this house before dinner."

Harrison grabbed Clara’s arm, pulling her back slightly. "Clara, stop," the lawyer muttered urgently, his voice low. "He’s not bluffing. If these numbers are accurate, we are looking at federal indictments. We need to negotiate, not escalate."

Clara shook Harrison off violently, glaring at Arthur as if she could physically strike him down. But the fire in her eyes had turned to ash. She knew she had lost the upper hand. The financial leverage that had sustained her dominance for years had suddenly become a ticking time bomb in her own hands.

"What do you want?" Clara spat out the words like poison.

"I want a clean, unreserved divorce," Arthur said firmly. "I want full, sole custody of Lily, with zero interference or visitation rights from you. And I want the transfer of independent residential property in the city signed over to my name by end of week, free and clear of any encumbrances."

Clara stared at him in disbelief. "Sole custody? You want to strip me of my child?"

May you like

"I want to protect my child from a monster," Arthur corrected sharply, his voice dropping an octave. "You made your choice the moment you made her eat off the floor. Now you live with the consequences."
