Chapter 2 - The Digital Avalanche

The deafening silence that followed the synchronized ringing of a hundred smartphones on the penthouse terrace felt heavier than the Manhattan skyline. Elena Vance lowered her champagne glass, the golden liquid sloshing dangerously against the crystal rim. Her fingers, usually steady and precise, trembled ever so slightly as she stared at the glowing screen of her own device. The display flashed a terrifying red alert: GLOBAL ASSET FREEZE INITIATED.

"What did you do?" Elena hissed, taking a sharp step forward, her glamorous facade cracking for the first time all evening.

Clara Miller stood tall, pulling young Leo closer to her side. The blood on her cheek had dried, but her gaze was sharper than any weapon. She adjusted the collar of her ruined blue suit, her posture radiating an authority that rivaled Elena’s corporate empire.

"I didn't do anything, Elena. You built a house of cards on stolen data and falsified signatures, and I simply pulled the foundational card," Clara said, her voice echoing clearly over the wind. "You locked me out of the corporate servers thinking I was helpless. You forgot that I wrote the original security architecture for Vance Enterprises. Every single subsidiary, every offshore account, every shell corporation—they are all hardwired to my biometric fail-safe."

Inside the glass doors of the ballroom, panic was spreading like wildfire among the city’s elite. Investors and board members were frantically tapping their screens, discovering that their credit cards were declining and their portfolios were displaying zeros. Shouts of indignation echoed through the French doors.

Elena’s face drained of its carefully applied color. She tapped furiously on her phone, trying to override the command, but the screen only displayed a locked skull icon and a single word: UNAUTHORIZED.

"You can't do this! The SEC will freeze you out, the banks will—" Elena stammered, losing her composure as the reality of financial ruin crashed down upon her.

"The SEC is already reviewing the encrypted ledger I uploaded to federal servers twenty minutes ago," Clara interrupted smoothly, stepping past Elena toward the private elevator. "While you were busy planning my termination, I was securing justice. Enjoy your champagne, Elena. It’s the last expensive thing you'll ever buy."

As the private elevator doors chimed and slid open, a squad of federal agents stepped out into the hallway, their badges gleaming under the soft lights. They marched straight past the stunned guests and headed directly toward a trembling Elena Vance.
