Chapter 7 - The Architect's Confession

Julian felt the ground literally drop out from beneath him. The penthouse party, the stolen glances, the champagne, the late-night confessions—every single moment he had shared with Chloe over the past four months hadn't been a daring, forbidden affair. It had been a controlled, meticulously staged sting operation designed by the woman he had taken for granted.
"An audit?" Julian’s voice cracked, the words tasting like ash in his mouth. He looked at Chloe, seeing her not as the glittering distraction he had chased to soothe his ego, but as a cold, professional investigator. "You're an investigator? Who hired you?"
"I didn't need to be hired," Chloe replied, stepping onto the first metal step of the aircraft stairs. "I was brought in by Amy’s corporate compliance firm eight months ago when your spending habits started raising red flags in the primary ledger. When we discovered you were systematically siphoning venture capital to fund your private debts, Amy had a choice: cover for you, or build a airtight federal case."
On the laptop screen, Amy leaned forward slightly, her blue eyes piercing straight through the camera lens into Julian’s soul. "And I chose justice, Julian. Not just for the investors, but for myself. You thought you could treat our marriage as a business merger while treating me like an ornament. You forgot one fundamental rule of business: never underestimate the general counsel."
"You let me sleep with you," Julian whispered, the sheer humiliation burning hotter than his fear of prison. "You pretended to love me."
"I played a role," Chloe corrected flatly, her voice devoid of any warmth. "Just like you played the devoted fiancé while secretly draining accounts that didn't belong to you. The only difference is that my acting was professional."
Julian looked back at the screen, desperation clawing at his throat. "Amy, please. We have a child together. You're carrying my baby. How can you sit there and coldly dismantle everything we built?"
At the mention of the child, Amy’s expression shifted subtly. The cold corporate armor fractured for a brief second, revealing a profound, motherly steel. She placed a hand protectively over her swollen stomach.
"That is the exact reason I am doing this," Amy said, her voice dropping to a fierce, quiet intensity. "I refuse to let my child grow up in an environment built on fraud, lies, and emotional abuse. I refuse to watch my son or daughter learn that power means exploiting the vulnerable."
"Let me come with you," Julian pleaded, taking a desperate step toward the stairs. "To Geneva. Let me prove that I can change. I'll step down from the company, I'll give up the wealth, I'll do whatever you want."
"You aren't going to Geneva, Julian," Amy said, her lips curving into a thin, enigmatic smile.

Before Julian could process her words, the heavy metal gates of the airfield burst open. Headlights cut through the darkness as three unmarked federal black SUVs roared onto the tarmac, sirens flashing silently, boxing in the Gulfstream from all sides.
