Chapter 3 - The Frozen Accounts

The red notification banner pulsed menacingly across Julian’s smartphone screen. Primary Corporate Holdings: Assets Frozen Pending Court-Ordered Forensic Audit. He stared at the glowing letters, his brain struggling to process the impossible string of words. His corporate accounts—the lifeblood of his real estate empire, the very foundation of his high-society standing—were locked tight.
"What is this?" Julian muttered, his fingers flying across the screen in a desperate attempt to log into his private banking portal. Access denied. Error code 404: Credentials revoked by primary trustee.
Eleanor stepped closer, her expression grim as she watched her son's arrogant facade crumble into sheer terror. "What did you just do, Julian? What kind of mess have you gotten us into?"
"It's not me!" Julian snapped, his voice rising, drawing uncomfortable glances from the wealthy patrons nearby. He grabbed Chloe by the arm, pulling her away from the group. "Chloe, where is your tablet? I need to check the offshore holdings."
Chloe blinked sleepily, brushing a lock of long brown hair over her shoulder. "Babe, I don't know anything about your business accounts. Why are you sweating so much? It's just a little party hiccup."
"It's not a hiccup!" Julian shouted, completely forgetting his manners. "Someone has locked the entire treasury! Every single dime we own is tied up!"
Eleanor reached into her pocket, her fingers brushing against the small, unassuming micro-SD card Amy had left behind. A cold realization washed over her spine. Amy hadn't just walked away from a broken relationship; she had executed a calculated, flawless financial dismantling of the entire family dynasty. For three years, Amy had served as the legal counsel and quiet financial architect behind Julian’s firm, quietly managing the restructuring documents. She had the access. She had the signatures.
"She warned us," Eleanor murmured, half to herself.
Julian spun around, his eyes wide and bloodshot. "Who? Who warned us? Mother, what do you know?"
Before Eleanor could answer, a group of men in sharp charcoal suits stepped out of the private elevator bank, cutting a direct, purposeful path through the crowded penthouse. They didn't look like party guests. They carried leather briefcases and wore expressions of grim official duty. The lead man stopped directly in front of Julian, flashing a federal badge.
"Mr. Julian Vance?" the agent asked, his voice entirely devoid of warmth. "I am Special Agent Miller. You need to come with us immediately to answer questions regarding corporate fraud, embezzlement, and unauthorized asset transfers."
Julian stumbled back, knocking over a crystal champagne flute that shattered harmlessly against the marble floor. "There’s a mistake. I’m Julian Vance. My family built half of this city!"

"Your former business partner and legal proxy," Agent Miller interrupted smoothly, pulling a signed affidavit from his briefcase, "filed a comprehensive whistleblower report forty-eight hours ago. Her name is Amy Miller-Vance. And she has already left the country."
