Chapter 13

The following weeks passed with a steady, productive rhythm that stood in stark contrast to the chaotic intrusion that had marked Julian's return. The new estate management team settled into their roles seamlessly, restoring an atmosphere of disciplined order and genuine hospitality to the sprawling villa. Julian spent his days in the subterranean server room and the upstairs study, working tirelessly to upgrade the global architecture of his father's neural network projects.

Word of the attempted corporate espionage had quietly rippled through the tech valley community, serving as a stark warning to other firms attempting to bypass cybersecurity protocols. Apex Digital Solutions had dissolved overnight following Jax's arrest and the subsequent federal raids on their downtown offices. Jax himself was currently awaiting trial, facing serious federal charges that made his arrogant party-hosting days feel like a distant, pathetic memory.

One afternoon, as Julian took a brief break from his coding sessions to walk along the garden path near the infinity pool, Sarah approached him with a tablet and a thoughtful expression. "Julian, there's a visitor at the front gates asking for a brief conversation. It's not a reporter or a vendor. It's someone from your father's old university foundation."

Julian paused, wiping his hands on a clean cotton rag. "From the foundation? Did they schedule an appointment?"

"No, but she claims she has a personal letter addressed to you from your father, written several months before his passing," Sarah explained, handing the tablet over so Julian could view the visitor's credential scan.

Julian looked at the screen. The visitor was Dr. Elena Vance—no relation, despite the shared surname—a senior research director at the Stanford AI Ethics Institute who had collaborated with Richard Vance on early neural mapping projects.

"Let her in, Sarah. Bring her to the terrace," Julian instructed, feeling a sudden surge of curiosity.

Ten minutes later, Dr. Elena Vance—a woman in her late forties with sharp, intelligent eyes and a calm, reassuring demeanor—was seated across from Julian at the stone patio table. She placed a sealed, yellowed envelope onto the glass tabletop.

"Thank you for seeing me on such short notice, Julian," Elena said softly, her voice carrying a warmth that the estate had lacked for years. "Your father and I worked together for over a decade. Before he passed, he left this with me, instructing me to deliver it to you only when you had successfully defended the core architecture from external threats."

Julian stared down at the envelope, recognizing his father's precise handwriting scrawled across the front. The weight of the moment settled over him like a warm blanket.
