Chapter 1: The Echo of Broken Trust

The white tile floor of the modern living room felt freezing against Clara’s back. She pressed her hand firmly over her abdomen, trying to stem the warmth of the blood seeping through the fabric of her white dress. A few feet away, her single red stiletto shoe lay abandoned, stripped from her foot during the sudden, violent struggle that had turned their quiet evening into a nightmare. Above them, the dome of the security camera blinked with a rhythmic, mechanical red pulse, silently recording every agonizing second.
Elena stood frozen near the center of the room. Her maroon cowl-neck midi dress rustled slightly as she shifted her weight, her dark hair pulled back tightly from a face drained of color. Her hands were raised defensively, trembling in the harsh glare of the recessed ceiling lights.
Marcus burst through the double white doors a second prior, his dark jacket thrown open over a plain black shirt. His short light brown hair was slightly disheveled, and his face twisted into a mask of pure shock and mounting fury. He dropped to his knees beside Clara, his breathing shallow and rapid as he assessed the damage. He didn’t look at Elena immediately, but the air between them thickened with an unbearable, suffocating tension.
Marcus reached out, his hand hovering inches from Clara’s wound before he pulled back, terrified of causing further harm. He turned his head slowly, his gaze locking onto the bright red high heel resting near the edge of the white tile, then tracked upward to meet Elena’s wide, terrified eyes.
"Don’t lie to me," Marcus whispered. His voice was dangerously soft, stripped of all warmth, vibrating with a terrifying restraint.
Elena shook her head, her breath catching in her throat. She stepped forward, her palms outstretched.
"Marcus, listen!" Elena pleaded, her voice cracking under the weight of the accusation hanging heavy in the room. "It wasn't like that. You don't know the whole story. I swear to God, I didn't mean to hurt her."
Marcus stood up slowly, towering over Elena with fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned chalk white. He took a menacing step toward her, his eyes narrowing into cold slits.

"She is bleeding out on our floor, Elena," Marcus snarled, his voice dropping an octave. "You were standing over her. The security system was armed. Now you are going to tell me the truth right now, or I swear I will call the police and let them sort out your alibi."
Elena stared up at him, her chest heaving as she fought back panic. She opened her mouth to speak, but before a single word could escape, the blinking red light on the security camera above them emitted a sharp, electronic click, followed by the faint hum of a hard drive beginning to overwrite its backup file.
