Chapter 15 - The Final Switch
Arthur sped down the deserted highway, the rain stinging his face as the motorcycle’s headlight cut through the heavy fog. The coordinates on the data drive led him straight to the decaying gates of the abandoned industrial sawmill. Inside the cavernous, rusting building, a single dim work light illuminated a small figure huddled near a wooden crate. Arthur cut the engine, his boots crunching loudly against the glass-strewn floor as he approached the shadowy figure. The boy turned around slowly, revealing the same pale skin and messy light brown hair, but his eyes were completely devoid of warmth. Leo smiled a chilling, adult smile that didn't reach his eyes, asking his father if he brought the rest of the medical equipment. Arthur reached slowly into his jacket pocket, his fingers wrapping around the heavy steel shears he had taken from Clara's bag. The boy’s skin began to peel back like synthetic rubber along his jawline, revealing a complex matrix of glowing red circuits underneath.
