Chapter 14 - The Empty Alley
Coughing and bleeding from a scrape on his temple, Arthur dropped onto the wet asphalt of the alleyway. The roar of the helicopter faded into the distance as it lifted off into the stormy night sky, taking Clara with it. Arthur stumbled toward the idling black motorcycle, his hands shaking so violently he could barely insert the silver key into the ignition. As the engine roared to life, a small digital data drive dropped out from the folds of Clara's dropped trench coat onto the ground. Arthur hesitated, picking up the small device and sliding it into the dashboard port of the motorcycle. A holographic projection flickered to life above the handlebars, displaying a classified medical file labeled 'Project Genesis'. To his absolute shock, the file contained live video footage of Leo sitting in a laboratory chair, his eyes normal and his arm completely free of any mechanical wires. A recorded voice message from Clara began to play over the speakers, warning him that the boy waiting for him at the sawmill was not his son.
