Chapter 10 - Breach of Protocol

The reinforced glass of the hospital room door splintered into a thousand pieces as a heavy steel battering ram struck it again. Armed men in black tactical gear poured into the room, their weapons raised and laser sights painting the walls in crimson dots. Evelyn scrambled to her feet, flashing a high-clearance digital badge at the lead operative to assert her command. The lead operative ignored her entirely, his eyes fixed on Clara and the opened metallic wires protruding from Leo’s arm. Clara drew a heavy steel-barreled pistol from her trench coat, positioning herself directly in front of the hospital bed. Arthur tried to shield his son, but a tactical agent grabbed him by the collar and threw him violently to the floor. Leo screamed out a high-frequency digital signal that caused every security monitor in the room to short-circuit and explode in a shower of sparks. In the blinding flash of the explosions, Clara grabbed Arthur by the arm and pulled him through the shattered window.
