Chapter 14: The Final Chapter of Malice

The fallout from the press conference was swift and decisive.

Public opinion swung overwhelmingly in Arthur's favor. The raw, unfiltered video of his speech went viral, praised globally as an authentic display of parental love and accountability.

Faced with overwhelming public backlash and airtight bank records presented by Julian Vance, the Daily Financial Times issued a full retraction and apology on its front page. Mark Briggs was suspended for journalistic malpractice, and Richard Davis was formally indicted by the state prosecutor for obstruction of justice and attempted extortion.

The corporate storm had finally passed, burning out like a dying ember.

Two weeks later, the Hudson Valley home was quiet once again. The news vans were gone, replaced by the gentle sounds of autumn rain pattering against the roof.

Arthur sat in the library, holding a newly issued legal document stamped with the seal of the New York Family Court.

Julian walked in, carrying two cups of coffee, setting one on Arthur's desk. "It's official then?"

Arthur held up the document with a proud smile. "Final adoption decree for both Noah and Lily. They are officially Sterlings."

Julian smiled warmly, raising his coffee cup in a quiet toast. "To family, Arthur. The best deal you ever made."

"The only deal that ever truly mattered," Arthur replied, clinking his cup against Julian's.

From the hallway outside, the sound of laughter echoed as Noah and Lily chased Barnaby across the hardwood floor. Arthur closed the legal folder, setting it neatly on his desk beside a newly framed photograph—not of an empire, nor of a corporate boardroom, but of three people standing together on a grassy hill under a bright, warm sun.
