Chapter 1 - The First Shove

The sterile white lights of Saint Jude Memorial Hospital hummed softly, casting a cold, unyielding glow over the tiled floor. The air smelled of antiseptic and lingering grief.

In the center of the room, a clear plastic bassinet cradled a tiny, helpless infant whose frantic wails pierced the quiet corridors.

Standing over the bassinet was a sixty-year-old man dressed in an immaculate dark suit. His short white hair was neatly combed, framing a face twisted by cold desperation. His hands, adorned with a single gold signet ring, hovered over the crying child. He reached down, his fingers slipping beneath the infant's swaddle, lifting the baby into his arms.

"I’ll take it away. You can have another one," the older man rasped, his voice devoid of warmth, treating human life like a misplaced ledger.

Before the child could fully register the transfer, the heavy metal door swung inward.

Sylvester Stallone, seventy-seven years old, broad-shouldered, and wearing a stark black suit and matching black shirt, stepped into the room. His expression was granite. Without a word, he closed the distance with surprising speed, intercepted the older man, and gently yet firmly took the crying baby from his arms.

Stallone turned immediately, passing the infant into the shaking, outstretched arms of a terrified nurse standing by the doorway, who whispered a silent prayer of gratitude.

As the nurse backed out of the room to safety, a thirty-year-old man in an expensive dark suit rushed forward. This was the younger man, his face flushed with adrenaline and fury. He confronted Stallone directly, invading his personal space, and aggressively poked a stiff finger into Stallone’s massive chest.

"She’s my wife. Stay out of this," the younger man snarled, spittle flying from his lips.

Stallone didn’t blink. He absorbed the poke without an inch of retreat, his dark eyes narrowing with quiet menace.

Without breaking eye contact, Stallone’s right arm lashed out with sudden, calculated force. He shoved the younger man squarely in the chest. The impact was devastating.

The younger man lost his footing instantly, tumbling backward in a chaotic blur of limbs. He crashed heavily into a stainless-steel hospital supply cart stacked precariously high with bottled water and plastic cups. The cart flipped violently, sending dozens of plastic bottles bouncing across the slick floor with deafening plastic clatter, while ceramic mugs shattered into jagged shards.

For a terrifying second, the room fell dead silent save for the muffled echoes of the newborn down the hall.

Slowly, painfully, the younger man pushed himself up from the wreckage of the cart. Bruised, his expensive suit now stained with spilled water and dust, he staggered back to his feet. He swayed slightly, clutching his ribs, yet his eyes burned with a dark, defiant fire. He glared at Stallone, who stood entirely calm, hands resting easily at his sides, breathing slowly and steadily.

The younger man wiped a drop of sweat from his forehead, his voice dropping to a harsh, trembling whisper that carried a terrifying secret.
