Chapter 8: The Line in the Sand

Victoria stood frozen, her hands gripping the bouquet so tightly that the green stems bent beneath her fingers. ""I did what was necessary to keep order!"" she insisted, though her defense sounded hollow even to her own ears. ""I am your mother!""
""And I am a father now,"" Arthur replied firmly. ""My first duty is to shield my daughter from the toxic environment you created for me. You will not do to Maya what you did to me and my father.""
""You would deny a child her grandmother over your petty pride?"" Victoria hissed, tears of anger glistening in her eyes.
""This isn't pride, Victoria. It's protection,"" Arthur said. ""If you ever truly want to be part of Maya's life, you need to seek professional help, take responsibility for your actions, and make a genuine apology to Elena. Until then, stay away from my family.""
Arthur turned his back on her and walked back into the room, closing the door firmly behind him. Outside, Victoria stood alone under the bright fluorescent lights of the corridor. The security guards politely ushered her toward the exit.

For the first time in her life, Victoria’s money and social status could not buy her passage through a door. As she walked out into the cold rain, holding her expensive flowers, the weight of her absolute isolation finally settled upon her shoulders.
Inside the room, Arthur sat beside Elena and cradled Maya in his arms. He felt no triumph, only a sense of solemn peace. The line had been drawn, and his family was safe.
