Chapter 14: The Turning of the Leaf

Elena looked at the elderly woman sitting humbled before her. The scar of that night in the nursery would always remain as a reminder of the storm they had survived, but the weapon of anger had lost its edge.
""I accept your apology, Victoria,"" Elena said softly, stepping forward and taking Victoria’s frail hand. ""We have all suffered enough. Let’s start over—not as ruler and subordinates, but as a family learning to heal.""
Victoria gasped, pressing Elena’s hand to her cheek as quiet tears fell.
Elena then turned to little Maya, who was watching curiously from behind her mother's skirt. ""Maya, sweetie, this is your grandmother Victoria.""
Maya stepped forward timidly, her big hazel eyes filled with innocent wonder. She reached into her small coat pocket and pulled out a bright yellow dandelion she had picked from the grass.
""For you, Grandma,"" Maya said in her sweet, high-pitched voice, extending the tiny flower.

Victoria’s trembling hand reached out to accept the humble gift. As her fingers brushed against her granddaughter's tiny hand, the cold, icy walls around Victoria’s heart finally dissolved into tears of overwhelming gratitude.
There were no expensive jewels, no high-society declarations, and no power plays. Just a small child offering a yellow flower to a grandmother who had finally found her way home.
