Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Vow

Three weeks later.
The small wooden chapel sat on a cliff overlooking the ocean. There were no news cameras, no grand crystal chandeliers, no hundreds of wealthy fake guests, and no dark secrets lingering in the shadows.
Only a dozen close friends, Detective Vance, and the bright afternoon sunlight streaming through simple clear glass windows.
Clara stood at the front of the altar, wearing a simple, elegant white linen dress. She held a small bouquet of wild ocean flowers. Her hair was tied back casually, and her face glowed with genuine, unburdened happiness.
Julian stood opposite her, wearing a clean grey linen suit. He looked at her with an intensity of love that brought happy tears to her eyes.
Standing right between them, holding a small velvet ring box, was seven-year-old Leo, looking sharp and proud in his tiny matching suit.
The justice of the peace stepped forward, smiling warmly at the small gathering. "We are gathered here today not just to join two lives in marriage, but to celebrate the resilience of love, truth, and family."
He turned to Julian. "Julian Vance, do you take Clara Jenkins to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
Julian looked at Clara, his voice steady and rich with emotion. "I do. I promise to love you, protect you, and stand by your side through every storm, forever."
The justice turned to Clara. "Clara Jenkins, do you take Julian Vance to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Clara smiled through her happy tears. "I do. I promise to hold your hand, share your burdens, and build a home filled with light and safety with you."
"And who brings these rings today?" the justice asked warmly.
Leo stepped forward proudly, holding up the velvet box. "I do!"
Julian and Clara both chuckled softly, taking the simple gold bands from the box. They slid the rings onto each other's fingers, their hands intertwined.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the justice announced. "You may kiss the bride."
Julian took Clara in his arms, dipping her gently as he kissed her deeply under the golden afternoon sun. The small crowd erupted into warm applause and cheers.

Leo jumped up and down, laughing, before throwing his arms around both of their waists. Julian lifted the boy into his arms, joining all three of them together in one tight embrace.
They walked out of the quiet chapel together into the bright, open sunshine, hand in hand, stepping into a peaceful future where fear no longer existed.
