Chapter 7: Ground Zero

Oakhaven was a town forgotten by time, covered in a persistent gray smog. Grace and Marcus found the address of the first name on Sarah’s list: a seven-year-old boy named Leo.

His mother, Maria, opened the door. Her eyes were hollow with exhaustion. When Grace explained why they were there, Maria broke down. She led them to a small bedroom where Leo lay hooked to a breathing machine, his skin pale, his veins dark. ""The company doctors said it was a rare genetic condition,"" Maria wept. ""They said they were providing free treatment out of charity."" Looking at the fragile boy, a profound sense of purpose ignited in Grace. This wasn't about revenge against her husband anymore. It was about humanity.
