Chapter 15: Sunrise
One year later. The sun rose brightly over Oakhaven. The smog had cleared. The Apex facility had been dismantled, its assets seized and liquidated to form a massive victim compensation and environmental cleanup fund.
Grace stood in a newly built community park, watching children run across the green grass. Among them was Leo, a little thinner than the other boys, but his cheeks were flushed with healthy color. He waved at her, and Grace waved back, a genuine, warm smile breaking across her face. She had lost her sister, her marriage, and her old life, but she had found her purpose. In the end, the courage to stand in the dark had brought an entire town back into the light."
