Chapter 14: The Open Horizon

Spring arrived in Oakhaven with an explosion of green along the rolling hills. The dark, rainy days that had defined Jax's arrival were replaced by bright sunlight and gentle breezes. Jax had received a promotion at the garage, becoming the head mechanic, and his relationship with the townspeople had grown strong and deep. The trailer had been expanded with a small garden out front, where Leo grew sunflowers and tomatoes.

One Saturday morning, Jax walked out to the shed where his motorcycle sat gleaming in the sunlight. Next to it sat a second, smaller bicycle that he had built for Leo from spare parts. Leo ran out of the house, wearing his helmet and a small leather vest that Jax had made for him, complete with a custom patch that read: ""Mercer & Son.""

""Ready for the highway trip, kiddo?"" Jax asked, handing Leo his gloves. ""I've been ready all morning!"" Leo cheered, hopping onto his bicycle while Jax fired up the Harley’s engine. They rode down the gravel lane together, the rumble of the motorcycle perfectly synchronized with the swift, energetic pedaling of the boy. They weren't running away from anything anymore; they were riding toward a future they had earned together step by step.
