Chapter 8: The Hidden Ledger**

While federal agents continued their search of the corporate offices, Arthur Vance uncovered a locked safe embedded behind the antique wood paneling of Evelyn's private study at the manor. With the sheriff's oversight, a locksmith cracked the tumblers, revealing a small, velvet-bound ledger dating back over a decade.
Arthur immediately summoned Victor to the study.
"What did you find?" Victor asked, watching the movers pack away family heirlooms into wooden crates.
"It’s worse than we thought, Victor," Arthur said solemnly, handing him the handwritten ledger. "Julian wasn't the only one stealing. Ten years ago, when your father passed away, he didn't leave the majority estate to Evelyn in an unrestricted trust. He left it specifically designated to your future children, with strict clauses requiring moral stewardship."
Victor read the faded ink on the yellowed pages. His father had explicitly foreseen Evelyn's greed, crafting a clause that instantly disinherited anyone who attempted to deny or alienate legitimate heirs of the Williams bloodline.
"She knew," Victor realized, his voice trembling with quiet outrage. "She knew that the moment I had a child with Clara, full legal ownership of the entire Williams global enterprise would pass automatically to Annie upon my thirty-fifth birthday."
"Exactly," Arthur confirmed. "If you remained unmarried and childless, Evelyn and Julian maintained absolute operational control and drew tens of millions in annual management fees. Annie wasn't just an inconvenience to her high-society vanity; Annie was an existential financial threat to their lavish lifestyle."

Victor closed the velvet book with a soft, decisive thud. "Deliver this directly to the United States Attorney. Let them add intentional fraud, grand conspiracy, and inheritance tampering to her indictment."
