Chapter 6: A Safe Harbor**

Far from the flashing cameras and screaming headlines surrounding Williams Tower, Clara rested in a sunlit suite at St. Jude’s Private Hospital. Specialist doctors had treated her severe pneumonia, chronic malnutrition, and exhaustion.
Annie sat on the edge of the bed, her face clean and glowing, happily devouring a bowl of fresh strawberries while watching cartoons on a mounted television.
Victor entered the room quietly, holding a bouquet of wild yellow daffodils—the exact flowers Clara used to paint during their college days.
"Daddy!" Annie cheered, holding up a strawberry. "Look! The nurse gave me three puddings!"
Victor smiled genuinely for the first time in years, kissing his daughter’s head before setting the flowers in a glass vase on Clara’s bedside table.
Clara looked up at him, her eyes still carrying the vulnerability of someone who had lived in fear for far too long. "I saw the news on the morning broadcast, Victor. Julian was arrested. Your mother was removed from the board."
"They will face justice, Clara," Victor said, sitting beside her and gently taking her hand. "None of them will ever hurt you or Annie again."
"I was so angry at you for three years," Clara whispered, looking down at their intertwined fingers. "Every time Annie cried because she was cold, I asked God why you abandoned us."
"I should have looked harder. I should have seen through their lies," Victor said, his voice heavy with regret. "I let my pride blind me. But I'm going to spend the rest of my life making it right."

Clara squeezed his hand gently. "We have a lot to heal, Victor. But seeing you stand up for our daughter last night... that was the man I fell in love with."
