Chapter 15: The Light in the Dark**

Summer arrived on the Northern California coast with endless blue skies and warm afternoon breezes. On the cliffs overlooking the sea, a wooden bench sat beneath a massive cypress tree, offering a view of the sun setting over the Pacific horizon in shades of fiery orange and soft lavender.

Marcus sat on the bench, watching eight-year-old Lily run along the grassy bluff, throwing a frisbee for a golden retriever they had adopted a year earlier. Her laughter echoed on the sea breeze—clear, joyous, and completely untouched by the darkness that had once threatened to consume her.

Around Lily's neck hung the small silver wolf pendant, glinting brightly against the setting sun.

She ran back to the bench, out of breath, and sat down beside Marcus, leaning her head against his arm just as she had done in that filthy warehouse four years ago.

"Are you thinking about Momma?" Lily asked softly, looking out at the golden ocean.

Marcus wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. "I was thinking about how she sent an angel to save me."

Lily giggled, looking up at him with the same luminous hazel eyes that had broken his chains. "I’m not an angel, silly. I’m just Lily."

Marcus looked down at the child who had restored his humanity, taught him how to love, and given a broken man a reason to live. He smiled—a genuine, peaceful smile that reached his eyes.

"To me, you are," Marcus said.

As the sun dipped beneath the Pacific waters, casting a warm golden glow across the world, the shadows of the past finally faded into the light.
