Chapter 14: A Garden in the Storm

Spring arrived at the Sterling Estate, bringing with it a vibrant explosion of cherry blossoms and green meadows. The oppressive atmosphere of conspiracy had vanished entirely, replaced by the sounds of laughter and barking dogs as Leo ran through the garden with his new golden retriever puppy.
Julian stood by the stone fountain, sketching a portrait of Clara as she tended to the rose bushes. His art had returned to him, but it was no longer melancholy and abstract; it was full of light, color, and life.
"You're making me look too fancy," Clara teased, wiping her forehead with the back of her gardening glove.
"I'm capturing the truth," Julian replied with a warm grin, turning the canvas toward her. The painting depicted Clara in the sunlight, radiant, strong, and beautiful.
Clara walked over, her eyes softening as she looked at the canvas. "You've changed, Julian. When I first met you in that ballroom, you looked like a man carrying the weight of the entire world on your shoulders."
"I was," Julian admitted, setting his brush down. He took her hands in his. "I thought duty meant fighting alone. But you showed me that true strength comes from opening your heart, even when you're terrified."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a simple, elegant platinum band set with a single sparkling sapphire—Victor’s favorite gemstone.
"Clara, you saved my nephew, and you saved my soul. Will you build a real family with us?"

Tears of happiness filled Clara’s eyes as she smiled and nodded. "Yes, Julian. A thousand times yes."
From across the lawn, Leo came running, throwing his arms around both of them as the afternoon sun bathed the new family in warm golden light.
