Chapter 1: The Glass Shatters

The gilded ballroom of the Sterling Manor fell dead silent, the echo of clinking crystal replaced by a suffocating chill. Julian Sterling stood frozen, the harsh ring of the voice memo reverberating from the smartphone speakers across the parquet floor: "Victor’s child must disappear before the inheritance clears."
Julian’s gaze shifted slowly from the glowing phone screen to Victoria, his fiancée. Her radiant red silk gown, once the epitome of high-society elegance, now looked like a pool of fresh blood under the chandelier light. Her painted lips trembled, her manicured fingers clawing at the heavy gold chain around her throat as if it were suddenly choking her.
"Julian, listen to me..." Victoria gasped, her eyes darting toward the ballroom doors where two armed security guards had already blocked the exits. "It’s an AI deepfake! Someone is framing me to tear our family apart!"
"Shut up," Julian hissed. His voice was not loud, but it carried the weight of a sledgehammer. For three agonizing months, Julian had mourned his late brother Victor, believing Victor’s death was a tragic car crash. Worse, Victor’s seven-year-old son, Leo, had been missing, presumed dead in the river.
Yet there Leo was, trembling in the arms of a humble catering waitress named Clara. The boy’s cheeks were smudged with dust, his oversized shirt hanging off his frail frame, but his eyes—those unmistakable hazel eyes—held the exact spark of Julian’s departed brother.
"Uncle Julian?" Leo whispered, his small voice cutting through the suffocating tension.
Tears pricked Julian’s eyes as he stepped past Victoria without looking at her. He knelt before the boy, ignoring the hundreds of elite guests watching in stunned disbelief. He reached out with trembling hands, gently cupping Leo’s cold cheek. "You're safe now, Leo. Uncle Julian is here."

Victoria tried to take a backward step, but the cold metal of handcuffs clicked into place behind her back as Detective Miller materialized from the crowd. "Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, and fraud."
As Victoria was dragged away, screaming curses that shattered the manor’s aristocratic facade, Julian embraced the frightened child. But beneath his relief lay a haunting truth: Victoria was ambitious, but she didn't have the empire-level influence to forge police reports and orchestrate a disappearance alone. Someone far more powerful had pulled the strings.
