Chapter 14

The snow began to fall heavily outside the Vermont lodge, tapping softly against the glass pane like a gentle reminder of the world passing by. Arthur sat back in the armchair, his breathing shallow and labored, his eyes fixed on the ceiling where the shadows danced in the flickering moonlight. Clara knelt beside him, holding a glass of water to his lips, her earlier bitterness completely melted away by human compassion.
"You don't have to carry it all anymore, Arthur," Clara whispered gently, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. "The company is in an oversight committee's hands. Julian is gone. Beatrice is facing trial. It’s over."
Arthur managed a weak, exhausted smile. "It's never really over, Clara. Power just changes hands. But... for the first time in my life, I don't care."
He reached into the pocket of his black overcoat with trembling fingers and pulled out a heavy, wax-sealed envelope bearing the official emblem of Vance Global Logistics. He pressed it into Clara’s hands.
"What is this?" she asked, looking down at the heavy parchment.
"My final testament," Arthur murmured, his voice fading to a whisper. "The remaining family shares... placed in a trust managed by Elena and the Vance Philanthropies. It will fund legal aid and rehabilitation centers across the country. A restitution... for all the lives this family crushed on its way to the top."

Clara stared at the envelope, tears welling in her eyes as she realized the true magnitude of his surrender. "You're giving it all away."
"I took too much," Arthur breathed, his eyes slowly closing. "Let the ledger finally balance."
